Diverse Stories That Inspire Hope

Writing was Connie-Vee’s first connection to creative expression. She wrote her first short story at the age of ten and has been writing ever since. As a mother and educator, her desire to see more diverse characters reflected in books inspired her to write children’s stories. Over time, her writing expanded to explore the complexities of life, relationships, identity, and resilience.

From humorous children’s tales to thought-provoking fiction for teens and adults, her stories celebrate the power of storytelling to entertain, inspire, and connect us.

Stories That Entertain, Inspire, and Connect Us

The Maker of Oils

Illustrated by Steven Scott

Once a year, the wealthy Mr. Sola visits a lively Nigerian village filled with colorful dancing, delicious food, and talented artisans selling their finest creations. But when young Kemi and her family offer him a gift unlike anything money can buy, they become the laughingstock of the village!

This year, however, Mr. Sola isn’t interested in the festivities. He’s searching for a rare, fragrant oil that has long disappeared. Could Kemi’s father, a humble fruit seller with a surprising past, hold the secret to finding it?

Filled with humor, colorful characters, and an unexpected twist, The Maker of Oils is a heartwarming folktale about generosity, kindness, and discovering that the greatest gifts in life aren’t always the ones we can buy.
